Currently heads down on prepping for what is going to be a ridiculously busy first half of 2025 for your’s truly. But we can’t let that stop the recap, can we? Onward!

The Minus Downs of 2024
It was not my intention to kick things off this week with something negative but here we are. I get comments All. The. Time. asking if a plus has ever made things worse. And I get it. It would be all to easy for me to say everything worked all the time and that I am all-knowing and flawless. But we all know that ain’t true. I don’t have a lot of minus downs since the point of the plus up is to actively make a sandwich better. But I do have them, and here they are.

The Intros of 2024
Williams’ Sandwich Recipes
While I am not anywhere near as goofy as I am on In The Chips with Barry, I am still a little goofy in my intros. So for this video I did a brief look back at the intros of 2024. Bonus - here is one that really should have included.

Bea (Bee) Martin Curried Cheese Sandwich
Our history
Rating: 8
Plus up: Capers and top English muffin
Plussed up rating: 9
I thought I’d kick of 2025 with a sandwich from our history. Brant Clements shared it with me (along with the fact that Bee spelled her name like flying insect not Bea Arthur - d’oh!). A melange of pantry ingredients, a little mayo, cheddar cheese, and curry powder. It all blended wonderfully. And it was very receptive to the pickely pop plus up of capers.

Mixed Meat Sandwich (1927) w/Guest Hosts Travis Curry and Cory Graves of Vandoliers
Salads and Sandwiches
Rating: 4 | 4
Plus up: Salt, pepper and sliced red onion
Plussed up rating: 5 | 5 1/2
For our first Guest Host Friday of 2025 I enlisted a couple of great guys from the amazing band, Vandoliers. They did a great job taking us through what can only be described as “meh” sandwich. What was amazing was that they managed to get their hands on a physical copy of the book too! Thanks, guys!

Chicken Paste Sandwich (1927)
Salads and Sandwiches
Rating: 5
Plus up: Curry powder
Plussed up rating: 7
With a name like Chicken Paste Sandwich, I think we were all justified in holding our breath. Thankfully, this had nothing to do with gelatin. Just A LOT of dairy. It was ok but even better with a dusting of curry powder.

Village Salad Sandwich (Greece)
International Sandwich Sunday
Rating: 5
Plus up: Curry powder
Plussed up rating: 7
Let’s face it, International Sandwich Sunday sandwiches almost always involve some kind of meat. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a variety of meats but it was refreshing to do a vegetarian sandwich that was light but satisfying. This was basically a Greek salad in a roll and I was here for it. Added a little pepperoncini just make that much mroe like a Greek salad we have here in the United States.

In The Chips with Barry 🥔
Sunshine Snacks Taste if Christmas (Trinidad)
These were suggested to me by Greg and I have to admit, I wasn’t sure what the Taste of Christmas would be in Trinidad. Turns out, glazed ham. Tasty little chip!

Japanese Steak Flavor Cheetos (China)
Um, yeah, no steak flavor at all, let alone a Japanese one. Basically tasted of corn. Did not finish them.

Lay’s Secret Spicy Hot Pot Potato Chips (Taiwan)
I never did figure out why these had “secret” in the name. Then again, it didn’t really matter. These tastes like a hot pot, complete with sichuan peppercorn numb and stingy goodness.

Lay’s Sichuan Spicy Fried Beef Potato Chips (China)
Another flavor that seemed to be missing something. No “fried beef” detected. But it was still delicious and spicy with an under note of savory goodness.

Can It Sandwich?
Turns out, yes. Despite the utter failure of the Japanese Steak flavored Cheetos to deliver any flavor other than corn, the combo of all three worked quite well. Oh, and there was some dancing, as per usual.
